Biographical or Historical Information

Claude Z. Allsbury was born in Scott County, Arkansas, on November 26, 1882, the son of Thomas Jefferson Allsbury and Parlee F. York Allsbury. One of his younger siblings, Roy Clifford Allsbury, later became a minister in the Central Kansas Conference. He attended Marionville College, but did not receive a degree. He married Myrtle O. Henley on January 2, 1907. Their children were Fred (born 1908), Reba (born 1910), Carl (born 1912), and John (born 1917). Rev. Allsubry was admitted to full membership in the St. Louis Conference and ordained Deacon on October 3, 1915. He was ordained Elder on September 30, 1917. While in the St. Louis Conference, Rev. Allsbury served at Iantha (1914) and Liberal (1917). After his transfer to the Kansas Conference, he served charges in Strong City (1919), Beattie (1923), and Blue Rapids (1926); he served on the Anti-Saloon League in 1928 and 1929, then was appointed to Piedmont-Fall River (1929), Gridley (1931), Blue Mound (1936), Tonganoxie (1938), Centralia-Corning (1940), Axtell (1947), and Alta Vista (1950). He retired on June 3, 1955; in his retirement he served at Reading-Miller (1958-1959) and Manhattan: Blue Valley Memorial (1960). He was also on the staff at First Methodist in Manhattan in 1965. Rev. Allsbury died on July 26, 1976, in Newton. He is buried in the Jamesburg Park Cemetery in Wichita, Sedgwick County, Kansas. His memoir is available in the Kansas East Conference Journal for 1977, page 252.
