Biographical or Historical Information

Mills Mallalieu Anderson was born in Marshall, Missouri, on January 10, 1888. He attended Northwestern University (A.B., 1910) and Boston University School of Theology (B.D., 1917 or 1918). Additionally, he completed most of the work toward a Ph.D. He was ordained deacon in the St. Louis Conference in 1914, and ordained elder in 1916. He married Noma Etta Hammel on January 1, 1913; their children were Mills Hammel (born 1914), Elizabeth Noma (1916-1918), Warren Rex (born 1917), and Margaret Louisa (born 1921). His appointments included Kansas City, Mo.-Mersington Ave. 1911 (supplied); (St. Louis Conf.) Buckner, 1912-1913; Sarcoxie 1913-1914; (New Hampshire Conf.) in seminary 1914-1918; Salem Depot 1914-1916; Somersworth 1916-1917; (St. Louis Conf.) Osceola 1917-1919; St. Louis-Hagerty Mem. 1919-1923; Joplin 1st 1923-1925; (Southwest Kansas Conf.) Wichita-St. Paul’s 1925-1926; (Oklahoma Conf.) Bartlesville 1st 1926-1931; District Supt. Tulsa District 1931-1932; Stillwater 1932-1934; (St. Louis Conf.) Carthage 1934-1936; Kansas City – Broadway 1936-1938; District Supt. Kansas City District 1938-1941; (Kansas Conf.) Parsons 1st 1941-1946; Executive Secretary Conference Claimants, Inc. 1946-1960. Rev. Anderson died in Kansas City, Kansas, on January 12, 1960. His funeral was held in Mission, Kansas, Jan. 15, 1960;. He was buried at Memorial Park Cemetery, Kansas City, Missouri. His wife Noma (1889-1968) is buried at his side. His memoir can be found in the Kansas Conference Journal for 1960, page 122.

Abstract

This collection contains information on Rev. Mills M. Anderson, who served the M.E. church with appointments in the Southwestern Kansas Conference and the Kansas Conference, as well as in the St. Louis and Oklahoma conferences. He also served as District Superintendent in the Kansas City district, 1938-1941.
