Biographical or Historical Information

George Roscoe Alsobrooks was born October 16, 1902, in Erin, Tennessee, the son of George Washington and Catherine (Kitty) Belle Young Alsobrooks. He attended rural schools and was a ministerial student at Trevecca College in Nashville; he also took a correspondence course at Emory University. He received his license to preach in the Tennessee Conference in 1933, also receiving his Deacon’s orders there in 1944. He was ordained an Elder in 1946 and served six Tennessee charges before his transfer to the Central Kansas Conference in 1949. Churches served in Kansas were Selden-Dresden-McGraw (1949), Logan-Mt. Pleasant (1952), Fowler (1954), Hunter (1956), Courtland-Lovewell (1959), Burr Oak (1964), and Ebenezer-Hayes (1968). He retired in 1970. He married Dixie Beatrice Lewis (1909-2014) on October 22, 1941. They were the parents of twins Jesse Ray (born 1945, died in infancy) and Bessie Faye (Alsobrooks) Fedlam, who was later ordained a Presbyterian minister. Rev. Alsobrooks died September 20, 1985, at his home in Tennessee Ridge. His funeral was held at Cedar Valley UMC and he was buried in Alsobrooks Cemetery, Houston County, Tennessee. His wife Dixie, who lived to the age of 105, died in 2014 and was buried beside him. Rev. Alsobrooks' memoir can be found in the Kansas West Conference Journal for 1986, page 340.
