Biographical or Historical Information

Roy Clifford Allsbury, son of Thomas Jefferson Allsbury and Parlee F. York Allsbury, was born July 8, 1888, in Oronogo, Missouri. Among his siblings was Claude Z. Allsbury, who also later became a minister in the M. E. Church. He attended Southwest Missouri Teachers College, Springfield, Missouri. He married Maudie Belle Mayfield (1890-1967) on February 13, 1910; their daughter Lora Thelma was born in 1914. Prior to joining the ministry, he taught school in Missouri for ten years. He was admitted on trial to the St. Louis Conference in 1911 and served at Knob Noster, Missouri, in 1919. In 1923 he was ordained Elder and moved to Courtland, Kansas, where he became a member of the Northwest Kansas Conference. In Kansas, he was appointed to the following charges: Courtland (1922), Kensington (1926), Gypsum (1929), Alba, Missouri (1931), Gypsum (1932), and Glasco (1937). He became a charter member of the Central Kansas Conference in 1939 and served as a Conference Evangelist for 12 years. He was appointed to the Kanopolis-Carneiro-Buckeye charge (1950) and to Roxbury (1952). He retired in October, 1953. Rev. Allsbury died on January 29, 1955, in Salina, Kansas; he is buried in Gypsum Hill Cemetery in that city. His memoir can be found in the Central Kansas Conference Journal for 1955, page 760.
