Biographical or Historical Information

Sylvia United Methodist Church Collection consists of items from Sylvia Methodist Episcopal Church (1887), First United Brethren Church of Sylvia (1921), Fairview United Brethren (1880), Glendale United Brethren, Peace Creek German Methodist Episcopal (1875), and Huntsville Methodist Episcopal (1894), due to a series of mergers and church closings. Sylvia United Methodist Church held its last service on June 11, 2017. The Methodist Episcopal Church became the Methodist Church in 1939. The United Brethren Church merged with the Evangelical Church in 1946, becoming the Evangelical United Brethren (EUB). The EUB merged with the Methodist Church in 1986, becoming the United Methodist Church.
