Biographical or Historical Information
In 1945, a man named John Hall purchased property along the Arkansas River near Arkansas City, Kansas, with the intention of building a youth camp. He also constructed a dining hall and lodge. Two years later, the First Methodist Church of Arkansas City bought the property and named it Camp Horizon. More buildings, including a manager's home, shower facilities, a chapel, and a swimming pool were later built. As of 2018, Horizon United Methodist Center is still owned by the Great Plains Conference of the United Methodist Church and used as a retreat center and youth camp.
