Scope and Contents
The collection contents include photographs, pamphlets, maps, brochures, newspaper clippings, and newsletters. Some of the earliest materials were booklets made in 1908 featuring several early photographs of and information about Baldwin City; however, there are other items from nearly every decade of the 20th century, as well as the early 2000s. New materials will be added as they are received.

The Bettes Paint and Wallpaper Store sold paint, wallpaper, picture frames, and related items in Baldwin City, Kansas. It was destroyed by fire in 1976. The collection was donated to the Kansas State Historical Society in 1991. Note by KSHS

Abstract
This collection consists of weekly income journals, 1925-1975; customer order ledgers, 1934-1975; memo books for picture frame orders, 1951-1974; and clippings and correspondence between Amelia Bettes and the State Fire Marshal's Office regarding a 1976 fire that destroyed the store. The collection is organized by type of record and/or year as applicable. Note by KSHS

Processing Information
The collection is in excellent condition and has no major problems or hazards. There are metal paper clips on notecards in the shoebox that were never removed and may be replaced with coated clips or a similar alternative if desired. Note by KSHS
