In the old Conference real estate records (still being processed at the Kansas United Methodist Archives as of this writing, October 2018), there is a letter that adds a little more to the Codell story. It was written by M. R. Starbuck of Plainville, Kansas, to Rev. J. E. Murphey, President, Conference Board of Trustees, Salina, Kansas. It is dated November 16, 1937, and reads in part: "Enclosed find Warranty Deed of the old Church lot at Codell, to Mr. Boyer who has agreed to pay $20.00 in cash when we deliver him the deed.... F. G. Boyer, the old gentleman who is about the last remaining family of the old Methodist Church that was swept away by the cyclone is getting it for his son Pearl who is single (yet) and only child. They want to put a little home on it.... When the cyclone destroyed the property and the struggling membership gave up the battle, the matters of business and membership was placed with the Plainville Church to look after. No one has even wanted the old lot until now, and our Board favors turning it to Mr. Boyer at the price of $20.00. The lot is in a field and would soon become a lost claim due to the fact that part of the town plot has been vacated and is no longer of value as city property. Cyclones swept the side hill three years in succession and 'Believe-it-or-not', since then it has not even been desirable as farm land. We hope better things to Mr. Boyer and family."
