Biographical or Historical Information

Gary H. Appleton was born November 28, 1934, in Green, Kansas, the son of Charles H. and Lula A. (Whitaker) Appleton. After graduating from Green High School (1952), he worked for Swift and Co. in Clay Center before joining the Air Force in 1955. He was stationed at Richards Gebauer Air Force Base, where he also worked in a civil service position before returning to active duty (1961-1962). He attended El Dorado Junior College and Southwestern; he was ordained deacon in 1968 and elder in 1970. He received his theology degree from St. Paul School of Theology, Kansas City, in 1970. His appointments included Potwin (1963), Mayfield Federated (1965), Troy-Severance (Kansas East supply) (1967), Troy (1971), Conway Springs (1972), Wichita, Epworth (1975), Mankato-Jewell, Salem (1979), St. John-Antrim (1985), Hugoton (1989), Lyons (1995), and Miltonsvale-Mt. Liberty (1998). He retired in 1999. Rev. Appleton married Ann Marie Munson, the daughter of Lawrence and Alice (Hanson) Munson; their sons were Stephen (born 1957), Mark (1958-1978), and Andrew (1968). Rev. Appleton died April 11, 2009, and is buried at Greenwood Cemetery, Clay Center, Kansas.
