Biographical / Historical
"The Methodist Church was founded in the Fall of 1878. Services were held in homes, a store building, the new school where Anthony Elementary now stands, and the old Courthouse. The First Methodist Episcopal Church was chartered on March 15, 1879 with a charter membership of sixteen people. The first church was built on the present site in 1882. With the need for more room, the current building was completed in 1909 at a cost of over $30,000. This included an Andrew Carnegie pipe organ which cost $2500. Carnegie donated $1000 for this organ. The 11 rank organ was modernized and electrified in 1956." -from Anthony United Methodist Church website https://anthonyumc.wixsite.com/anthonyumc/untitled-cja9
