Lawrence Franklin Almond was born in Yates Center, Kansas, on April 20, 1920. He attended high school in Yates Center and earned his A. B. at Baker University in 1942. According to his application for admission on trial to the Kansas Conference, he was licensed “about 1938” in the Emporia district. At the time of his application, he had preached at Burlington for three years and at Kincaid for one year. He married Juanita Ralston (1917-1998) on October 30, 1939. Their children were David Lawrence (born 1943), Jonathan Ralston (born 1945; later became a minister), and Priscilla Ann (born 1949). Rev. Almond served in Kincaid-Lone Elm (1942). In 1944 he lived in Massachusetts and attended Boston University. A note in his personnel records say that he wanted to join the New England Conference in June 1945 with the intent of returning to the Kansas Conference later. Rev. Almond died in Rhode Island on April 18, 2002. His memoir can be found in the New England Conference Journal for 2002, page B-242, as well as the Troy Conference Journal for 2003, page 1343. His wife's memoir is in the New England Conference Journal for 1999, page B-230.
