Scope and Contents

This collection, comprised of one file, contains the Quarterly Conference Record for the Adrian Circuit, North District, Kansas Annual Conference, United Brethren in Christ (1895-1904). The record book was provided for copying by Richard W. Vanderwall of Fort Wayne, Indiana. Mr. Vanderwall was a grandson of Rev. Job Wykert.

Biographical or Historical Information

The Adrian Circuit was comprised of the Mount Olive, Adrian, and Olive Branch congregations in Jackson and Shawnee Counties, Kansas. At the session of the Kansas Annual Conference held in Meriden, Kansas, October 2-6, 1895, the Mount Olive and Adrian classes of the Soldier Valley circuit, and the Olive Branch class of the Hoyt circuit, were detached from their respective circuits and the Adrian Circuit formed. Rev. F. J. Chandler was appointed pastor. The quarterly conference records for 1895-1904 do not indicate the details of the closing of the Adrian circuit. The quarterly conference records end at 1904. At the conclusion of the book there is a photocopy of a bulletin used in “the dedication service of marker in memory of persons who worshiped at the Adrian United Brethren Church.” According to the program, the service was held on May 25, 1975. A drawing of the marker indicates that it reads, “ADRIAN CEMETERY. Dedicated to Memory of the Many Worshipers of ADRIAN UB CHURCH Started Feb. 20, 1887 – Job Wykert.”
