Biographical or Historical Information

Gerald Harris Akins, born in O’Donnell, Lynn County, Texas, on July 23, 1925, spent his early years in Abilene. He served in the military from 1943 to 1946 and graduated Hardin-Simmons University in 1949. After earning his master’s degree in theology from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1954, he returned to military service, retiring to McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita in 1974. In his retirement, he served as a Methodist minister, serving the Furley/Greenwich charge, Wichita district, Kansas West Conference, in 1979. Rev. Akins died at the age of 73 on July 26, 1998, in Wichita, Kansas. His services were held in Metropolitan Baptist Church and burial was in White Chapel Cemetery, Wichita.
