Biographical / Historical
On April 16, 1883 application was made for a charter for St. John First United Methodist Church.
Trustees were James Neelands, I. W. Reeves, E.S. Kerns, F.R. Swartz and James I. Jenkins.
The first church building was erected that summer and fall - records indicate that it was a one room affair, later remodeled and enlarged.
Four charter members recorded were: Mrs. Jennie Mace, Mrs. Martha Morgan, James Jenkins and Mrs. Carrie Jenkins.
First Pastor was Rev. A. J. Taylor.
Twenty- two members were added the first year.
