Biographical or Historical Information

Herman Magnus Menger was born in Wildenspring, Germany in 1831. He emigrated to the United States in 1850 and joined the German Methodist Episcopal church in 1853. In 1857, he and his wife, Sophia, moved to Kansas Territory and eventually settled in Lawrence. After surviving Quantrill's raid by hiding in a cornfield, Herman became a circuit preacher in the West German Conference and served for over 30 years. He died in Parsons, Kansas in 1897.
