Biographical or Historical Information
Roberta Jeanne Alexander was born July 16, 1917, in Wichita to Thomas and Roberta (Downs) Alexander. After graduating from Wichita High School East, she attended Friends University and graduated from the National Training School in Kansas City, Missouri.
Roberta Alexander served for 22 years as a deaconess in the church. According to the Wichita Eagle article in the collection, her work included a house mother in Montana, a teacher in immigrant housing in New York City, and a summer camp director in New York state. Retiring from the diaconate in the 1960s, she was a case worker for the state Welfare Department (later SRS), retiring from that position in 1987.
After her retirement, she continued her travels and her social and volunteer work while living at Presbyterian Manor.
She died April 15, 2006, and is buried at Mission Chapel Mausoleum, Wichita.
