Biographical or Historical Information
Nina Ellen Anderson was born in Osborne County, Kansas, on April 26, 1914, the eldest of the five children of Anders Wallace Anderson and Sarah Louella (Lulu) Collins Anderson. She grew up on a farm south of Osborne and graduated as class valedictorian from Osborne High School. She attended Friends University (Wichita) (1933-1934) and Kansas State College (Hays) and taught in the country schools of Osborne County for five and a half years before being called to the ministry. She then attended Friends Bible College, Haviland, Kansas (where she received Bible College Diploma for two years’ work) and Greenville College, Greenville, Illinois (where she received her B.A. in 1944). During the summers of 1949-1952 and 1957, she attended a special Methodist Seminary for pastors at Perkins School of Theology, Dallas, Texas.
Rev. Anderson was ordained deacon in 1950; elder in 1952; entered the Kansas West Conference on trial in 1956; and became a full member in 1958.
Her appointments included the following: Haddam (1946-1948); Webber (1949-1952); Broughton (1953-1955); Jamestown-Highland (1956-1958); Hunter (1959-1961); Haviland (1962-1963); Delphos-Lamar (1964-1965); Lenora (Edmond EUB) (1966-1968); Barnard-Ashgrove (1969-1970); Offerle (1971- ); (Disability leave 1972); Detroit-Bethany (1973-1974); (disability leave 1975-1977); (leave of absence 1978- ); retired 1979 due to ill health.
Rev. Anderson died at the Parkview Care Center in Osborne on February 26, 2003, at the age of 88. Her funeral took place at the Osborne UMC and she was buried in Osborne Cemetery. Her memoir is available in the Kansas West Annual Conference minutes (2003), page 450.
