Biographical or Historical Information

Henry Lazarus Anderson was born April 7, 1851, in Barboursville, Knox County, Kentucky, the son of Bradley W. and Maria A. (Smith) Anderson. At some time before the age of 24, he relocated to Nebraska. He was married to Lizzie Ewing on December 28, 1876, in Nebraska City; the ceremony was officiated by Rev. W. A. Hanna of the M. E. Church, South. The couple made their first home in Lincoln, Nebraska. Their children were Harry (born 1877), Mable Isrella (born 1879), Mary Melinda (born 1881), Clarence E. (born 1884), Lucius Bradley (born 1886), Edith M. (born 1889), and Vernon Eugene (born 1894). In 1880, the census recorded the family as living in Leavenworth, Kansas, where Rev. Anderson was listed as a Methodist minister, possibly in the M. E. Church, South. Subsequent records indicate homes (and probably charges) in the Missouri towns of Miami, Gunn City, Nevada, and Hustonia. In 1905, Rev. Anderson discontinued his association with the Methodist church and was ordained a deacon in the Episcopal Church. Rev. Anderson died on January 1, 1913, and is buried in the Bellefontaine Cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri.
