Biographical / Historical
Lowther was expelled from the ME Church for heresy in March 1902 at the SW Annual Methodist Episcopal Conference in Arkansas City. In Feburary 1902, he gave a speech titled "Atonement" which claimed that the serpent who tempted Eve was not Satan and that Jesus did not die to appease God's Wrath. After his excommunication, he continued to preach before moving to Washington where he became an expert in horticulure.
